1Home Alone 1 & 2

A young boy named Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) who was accidentally left behind at home alone when his family went on a vacation trip. When finding out 2 burglars and their plan to rob his house, Kevin – the smarty “trouble-maker” prepares many surprises for his unwanted guests and defends his house.
I still remember the very first time I watched this comedy movie on TV when I was a teen and it totally got me. I even wished that in the next year, they would broadcast this movie again in holiday time and it turned out they actually did it, 3 years in a row. And I still like it very much.
Despite that the story of a child winning over two adult burglars (even they are not so smart) seems unreal, many people still enjoy it very much thanks to the charm of the kid hero, his clever naughty tricks as well as the funny moments in the movie.
Rating: 7.7/10 (IDM) | 6.3/10 (Rotten Tomatoes)
The movie is about 8 different stories of 8 couples struggling with their relationships in Christmas time and they all happen in London.
First, it’s rated R so you should not let your kids watch it when they’re not sleeping.
Although there are people find it overstuffed with too many stories and too many casts, the major thinks of Love Actually as a beautiful and heart-warming movie. This movie is about house-swappers exchanging house to find a new lease for their life. Suffered from romantic love disappointments, Amada and Iris swap their homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local man and fall in love.
Another love story in Christmas time. However, what’s wrong with sugar-coated your Christmas a little bit with such story? The more you watch it, the better it gets. The Holiday is a great movie to curl up to and it gives you the warm fuzzy feelings, as expected from a romantic comedy.
4A Christmas Carol
Rating: 6.8/10 (IDM) | 5.9/10 (Rotten Tomatoes)
Retelling Charles Dickens’ classic novel “A Christmas Carol”, this animated movie is about a Victorian-era miser who doesn’t share the merriment of Christmas. He gets visited by three spirits and has to take on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.
Although it’s an animated movie, you’ll find it fit adults more with the deeply meaningful lessons behind the story. The journey of Scrooge to his early life to learn about his mistakes and find his way back to be a good man, is both exciting and thrilling to watch. Not to mention that, the visuals are pretty impressive, especially with the ghostly three spirits who are made so alive and fanciful.
5A Christmas Story

It’s the story of 9-year-old Ralphie who wants just one thing for Christmas: an official Red Ryder BB rifle. Ralphie needs to convince everyone – his parents, his teacher and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

If you want to change the atmosphere and try a new kind of Christmas movie, then Joyeux Noel is a brilliant option. Not only shows us the foolishness of wars, the religious cause of wars but also gives us a different view of “the enemy” – turns out that they’re like us too.
Rating: 7.1/10 (IDM) | 6.7/10 (Rotten Tomatoes)
A conman and a thief teams up with a midget to rob stores on Christmas Eve. However, all they have are problems from a troublesome kid.
Again, don’t watch this movie with your kids.
What do you do when you get tired of your life and want to stand up for something? Robbery is sure not a good answer but hell, Willie – the conman in this movie doesn’t care. Despite the strong language and the “vulgar assault on the Christmas spirit” like some people complain about this movie, it’s actually a contrast story of how a man who loses his faith can find it again and start his life over.
